2021 NBA All-Stars

2021 NBA All-Stars

NBA All-Star Weekend is back in The A for the first time since 2003. LeBron James (LA Lakers forward) and Kevin Durant (Brooklyn Nets forward) received the most vote from fans and will serve as captains of their teams.  They will build their roster from the players voted 2021 All-Stars starters and reserves during a draft on Thursday, March 4.  It will air on TNT at 8 p.m. ET.

Philadelphia 76ers head coach Doc Rivers and his staff will coach Team Durant.  Team LeBron will be coached by Utah Jazz head coach Quin Snyder and his staff.

Here are a couple of stats and opinions for this year’s All-Star.

A record five international players have been voted NBA All-Star Game starters:

Giannis Antetokounmpo, Milwaukee Bucks forward(Greece)

Luka Dončić, Dallas Mavericks guard (Slovenia)

Joel Embiid, Philadelphia 76ers center/forward (Cameroon)

Kyrie Irving, Brooklyn Nets point guard (Australia)

Nikola Jokić, Denver Nuggets center (Serbia)

Zion Williamson is the first NBA All-Star born in the 2000s.  The Pelicans forward was also the NBA’s first No. 1 draft pick born in this millennium.

Atlanta Hawks Trae Young is the biggest snub from the East.  The third year point guard out of Oklahoma ranks 10th in points with (27 per game) and 3rd in assists (9.6 per game) in the NBA. That’s almost a double-double per game and the game is in his city.  How could the coaches not vote him in?  As my nephew would say, “Come on son!”

The biggest snub from the West is Devin Booker.  The Phoenix Suns guard leads the team in scoring and is averaging 24.7 points per game.  He ranked higher in All-Star balloting than his teammate Chris Paul, yet coaches didn’t select him.  Respect for everything CP3 is adding to the Suns, but how does the man leading the team not become an All-Star?  Again, come on son!
