Shalyn “Shay” Anderson-Garner
Columbia College Chicago ’19
B.A. Dance; Marketing Minor
Shalyn is a movement artist from West Michigan whose passion is to create versatile movements using syncopated rhythms. Falling in love with dance as a toddler, she began dance lessons at two years old and continued training throughout high school, studying ballet and tap.
Attracted to the vibrant dance scene, Shalyn relocated to Chicago to attend Columbia College, where she graduated with a B.A. in dance and marketing minor. At Columbia, she added Hip-hop, West-African and traditional Modern dance styles to her repertoire. She further mastered her dance technique and instruction methodology interning at dance studios and teaching various after school programs and in-school residencies. After graduation, she began working as a teaching artist at Design Dance in Chicago, Illinois.
In 2017, while still a student, Shalyn launched Shay Shanise, a dance performance and teaching company. She has performed throughout the Chicagoland area, and for the American College Dance Association. Her choreographic experience ranges from music videos to college-level performances. She aims to get everyone moving to express themselves.
