NFL Numbers for the Boardroom: Week 15

Just two games left in the season.  Three teams in the AFC have clinched their playoff spot: New England Patriots (AFC East), Indianapolis Colts (AFC South) and Denver Broncos (AFC West).  The NFC is not as clear.  Only the Arizona Cardinals (NFC West) have clinched a playoff spot.

Numbers for the boardroom

2009

The Arizona Cardinals are going to the playoffs for the first time since 2009.

38

The San Francisco 49ers did not get the ball past the Seattle Seahawks 38 yard line yesterday and lost 17-7.  They are not going to the playoffs.

80

Cleveland Browns rookie quarterback Johnny Manziel only had 80 passing yards and was sacked three times in his first NFL start.  The Browns were humiliated by their intrastate and division rival, Cincinnati Bengals 30-0.

3

Dez Bryant caught a career-best three touchdown catches in the Dallas Cowboys 38-27 victory over the Philadelphia Eagles. It looked scary for Jerry Jones’ boys.  They were up 21-0 in the second quarter, but were only up by four points at the end of the 3rd quarter.  The win puts them in the lead of the NFC East.

8

The Buffalo Bills upset the Green Bay Packers 21-13 on Sunday.  They have their first eight-win season since going 9-7 in 2004.

12

The Denver Broncos beat the San Diego Chargers 22-10.  It was their 12th straight division road win. They are now tied with the record set by the San Francisco 49ers from 1987-90.

209 and 142

Indianapolis Colts wide receiver Reggie Wayne owns the record for career games (209)  career wins (142).

Monday Night Football
New Orleans Saints (5-8) travel to the Chicago Bears (5-8) for Monday Night Football (MNF).  Both teams have played poorly and have not won half of their games.  However, the Saints are in a weak division (NFC South).  Despite their losing record, they are tied for first in their division.  The Chicago Bears are at the bottom of the NFC North and have been eliminated from playoff contention.  The Bears do not have anything to fight for.  New Orleans wants to get to the playoffs.  I am going with a Saints victory 17 – 10.  MNF kicks off at 8:30 PM ET.

Get in the game!
