NFL Numbers for the Boardroom: Championship Sunday

Super Bowl XLIX is set!  The Seattle Seahawks are returning to the championship game for their second consecutive year.  The defending champions will meet the New England Patriots in Glendale, Arizona.  Ironically, the last time team to go to back-to-back Super Bowls was the Patriots in 2004 and 2005.  They won both.  Will the Seattle Seahawks win back-to-back championships or will the New England Patriots get their fourth Super Bowl ring?

Numbers for the boardroom

4

Despite Seattle Seahawks quarterback, Russell Wilson throwing four interceptions in the NFC Championship Game. They beat the Green Bay Packers 28 – 22.

35

Russell Wilson’s only touchdown in the NFC Championship game came when it mattered most.  It was a 35 yard pass to Jermaine Kearse in sudden death (overtime).

3

The Green Bay Packers made it to the red zone three times, but they only scored one touchdown in the NFC Championship Game.

4

The New England Patriots scored in all four quarters of the AFC Championship Game.  They demolished the Indianapolis Colts 45 – 7 and won their spot in Super Bowl XLIX.

148

New England Patriots running back LeGarrette Blount ran 30 times for 148 yards and scored three touchdowns.

7,017

New England Patriots quarterback Tom Brady passed Peyton Manning (6,800 yards) for most yards passing in the postseason with 7,017 yards.

Next week I will review each each unit of this year’s Super Bowl teams.  Details for Super Bowl XLIX are here.
