A Busy Off-Season

Celebrating the Los Angeles Kings accomplishment was short lived as the NHL pushed on with a busy few weeks after.  First, the NHL Awards were held in Last Vegas, where all the top stars came out for the yearly award ceremony. Honors such as the Hart Memorial trophy given to the most valuable player, the Vezina Trophy for the top goaltender, and other awards were handed out. Then two days later, the NHL Entry Draft was held in Pittsburgh, with the next round of hockey superstars being chosen by one of the 30 teams.

The off season is far from settling down. July 1 was the beginning of free agency, a long awaited time of the year. Several moves were made the first day including re-signings, trades, or teams acquiring new talent. The first two days saw more than 20 players completing transactions. The next few days will see more signings and notable players’ decisions will be announced. Much of the hockey world has its eyes on Zach Parise, Rick Nash, and Ryan Suter. Will they stay with their current teams or choose to pursue new teams? Be on the lookout for more signings as the summer continues!
